The membership of the Jefferson Business Council has, by unanimous vote, elected to support the renewal of the existing Jefferson Parish Library Millage. The revenue from the millage currently funds 97% of the Library Department operations and maintenance in Jefferson Parish. The JBC membership reviewed a recent PEW Research Center Report which reflected that most Americans view public libraries as important parts of their communities. The report further placed in perspective the expanding role of libraries in the digital age. The organization also received a briefing on current operations and future plans for the system by the Jefferson Parish administration.

The findings of the PEW report were mirrored by Jefferson Parish library usage data and the programs that have been implemented in the system. Chairman Mickal Adler concluded “Our membership is convinced that our library system is an integral part of a progressive Jefferson Parish. There is a real vision for its role in the community now and in the future. This millage renewal and contemplated expenditures are a wise investment and provide great benefits for residents of all ages. The Jefferson Business Council is fully supportive of the renewal. We respectfully ask that all Jefferson Parish voters join us in that support by casting a ballot in favor on April 29th.
